On the night of August 6, 2026, a softfork took place on the Pearl network. The rank-penalty softfork activated at approximately 02:00 UTC (block 96251). This is the event many miners discovered in the morning after noticing a drop in hashrate. In the Pearl protocol there is a parameter called noise rank. The higher the rank, the “easier” it was to obtain a valid jackpot (reward) for the same amount of work. Some miners deliberately mined at high ranks and received a disproportionately large effective hashrate and rewards. The team investigated abnormal mining optimizations. As a result, the softfork introduced a penalty mechanism and established new rules.
New rules after the softfork:
- Minimum allowed rank = 128.
- Jackpot-bound is now scaled by the formula 128 / rank.
- The advantage of high ranks has been completely removed.
Impact on miners
Those who mined with rank > 128 lose 50–87.5% of effective hashrate. Those who were already working at rank ≤ 128 lose almost nothing. Pools (including Kryptex) prepared in advance. Miners need to update their software — older versions either lose significant efficiency or stop working correctly with the new network rules.

The fork eliminated the ability to obtain inflated hashrate through high ranks. Anyone who has not updated their miner will suffer a significant loss in efficiency. Update and continue mining fairly.
