Using ASIC miners for cryptocurrency mining is typically not associated with home use due to high power consumption and noise. However, demand creates supply, and the market offers a variety of ASIC miner models designed for home use. The main problem with such solutions is the use of outdated ASIC chips that no longer provide profitability, as the cost of electricity exceeds the earnings from mining on such devices. Recently, the company Hummer released the ASIC Hammer THOR X1 and P2 to the market, featuring the latest-generation ASIC chips BM1373, which are used in the latest-generation industrial Bitcoin mining rigs – Antminer S23.
The main difference between the P2 and X1 models is the use of two BM1373 chips instead of one.
The energy efficiency of the Hammer THOR P2 ASIC will range from 11–14 J/TH depending on the selected operating mode. The hashrate also depends on the mode and ranges from 6.6 to 10 TH/s. Power consumption will likewise vary (from 72 to 140W). Noise level: 38 dB.
For the THOR X1 model, which uses only one BM1373 chip, the specifications are surprisingly not exactly half: hashrate 2.7–3.2 TH/s, TDP 26–38W, energy efficiency 10.5–12 J/TH. Noise level: 45 dB.
Both models support SOLO mode operation and connection to a mining pool. Internet connectivity is available via Wi-Fi and Ethernet cable.
Like all previous ASIC miners from Hummer, the new models are also positioned for home use. It is worth noting the ability to operate the miners in SOLO mode, which gives you the chance to catch an entire block on the BTC network, for which a reward of 3.125 BTC or $270,000 is given. The chance of catching such a block is negligible; on the other hand, even a hashrate of 10 TH/s is currently too low to seriously talk about any earnings with such an ASIC. If you enter the Hammer THOR P2 specifications into a mining calculator, it will earn $120 per year, and if you pay for electricity, the income is unlikely to exceed $50 for a whole year of operation of such a device.
